Who here has a Focus that isn't an ST that has the 5spd? How is it?

my brother likes his. Put a cold air intake on it and it's got a mean little growl.

My brother has one, he's quite fond of it.

I've driven a coworker's when he was drunk coming from a work event. It was pretty nice to drive, and he seems to like it. Light clutch, kind of long throws. Much better than the auto, which is terrible.

My brother also has one (the Sport here in Aus) and he loves it. I've driven it a few times, the shift itself is pretty nice, though the clutch take up point is pretty high. Engine feels gutless though, as it seems to make all its power (it's a 2.5l 4cyl with I think about 127kw which is what, 172hp?) above where you really want it for general driving, so if you don't want to get spanked by Daihatsus you need to rev the tits off it (sounds nice above 4500rpm though). I think if you would be better off with the diesel as the torque comes in where you can actually use it without looking like a hoon. Incidentally, if you are in Aus, I've driven the previous model 2.0l petrol (108kw) and in my opinion it's a better car all around. Having said that, my brother has had his for a few years and it's been faultless and he really likes it, and I will confess it grows on me each time I drive it.

Don't know if my earlier reply was approved, but I was wrong - it's a 1999cc 4cyl with 125kw, not a 2.5 with 127. Perhaps my torque expectations where skewed by my thinking it had another 400cc under the hood.

I've heard the auto is really bad, I really don't want the auto anyway.

We've talked about this already, but I test- drove one. It's handling punches above it's weight class. I wouldn't be surprised if a stock Titanium focus could keep up with a GTI or FiST around a track because of the better rubber and brakes. The car is quick off the line, but loses steam once it gets rolling. I found that it performs best when kept in between 3-5K rpm. To me, the brakes felt too grabby, but they feel like that on the GLI as well. I think that has to do with the fact the titanium has better brakes.
Next, the interior. I was told the Titanium's seats are the same shape as the SE's cloth ones, and the bolstering felt sufficient, but a bit on the lacking side. Personally, I dislike the center stack on the focus, but that's a personal thing.
Trunk space. hatch has it. sedan doesn't. end of story.
Sound. It sounds ok. definitely meatier than the Turbo 4-pots on some competitors, but I preffer the 5-pot rattle in my mom's jetta personally. Sound system? idk, didn't use the more basic one. The Sony one in the titanium is ok though.
Yes, it babies.
So, if you want to know anything else, just ask!

New brakes always feel grabby but that was a good overview thanks!

Are you opposed to a Fiesta? A slightly used Fiesta ST would be about the same price if you can find one.

No I'm not. I haven't found any near me though.

Yeah, not a whole lot going back yet, for obvious reasons.
Still, Ford is offering a lot on incentives right now. You might be able to pick up a Fiesta ST within your price range. That would really be the ideal option if you could swing it. If not, have you considered CPO Mazdaspeed 3's or GTIs?

Yeah, still not a lot near me and and all the Golfs I've found are a little out of my range.
